Future City Competition

The ultimate STEM competition. Future City is a hands-on cross-curricular educational program that brings STEM to life.

Future City starts with a question- how can we make the world a better place? To answer it, students imagine, research, design, and build citites of the future that showcase their solution to a citywide sustainability issue.

Teams must have a minimum of 3 students to participate. No maximum team size. Each team has a program leader, called Educator, and guide the team members through this project-based learning experience. The work is entirely student-led, but the program leader keeps the team on track, uploads deliverables, and offers feedback and guidance. Time commitment for Program Leaders is about 35-45 hours throughout September-February.

Mentors work alongside the Educator and act as a coach and role model, share real-life STEM experiences, offer technical guidance, and help translate academic concepts to the real world of engineering and city design. The time commitment for Mentors is about 15-25 hours throughout September-February.

Judges are a vital part of Future City and serving in this capacity is fun and rewarding! Judges can serve at the regional and national levels. Scoring rubrics and training is provided by DiscoverE. Time commitment for Judges is about 4-8 hours on weekends in January (Regional competitions) and February (National competitions).

Future City is a program of DiscoverE.
